FAQ

What is s3 storage?
S3 storage is like a giant, secure digital warehouse in the cloud where your project files and published tours are stored. It automatically handles the separation between private work-in-progress files and making your finished tours publicly available through 360Crafter.

It's my first time hearing about s3, how do I set it up?
I've got this 27min tutorial on setting up Minio. More recently Hetzner introduced their own Object Storage offering 1TB of storage with 1TB of monthly bandwidth traffic. Using something like Cyberduck you can more easily manage the files in your buckets similar to Filezilla. If you'd prefer me setting it up for you, I can do that for €40. Feel free to contact me about it

What if I don't like it? Can I get a refund?
That's okay. Within two months after launching the production version of 360Crafter you can get a refund as an Early Adopter. For more info you can read the Refund Policy. I'm hoping a refund won't be needed and that I can make you stay, so I'd be happy to hear your reasons, but it's not required to tell me.

What is the Sustainable Use License? (using source code)
The Sustainable Use License is a fair-code software license created by n8n in 2022. The license allows you the free right to use, modify, create derivative works, and redistribute, with three limitations:

  1. You may use or modify the software only for your own internal business purposes or for non-commercial or personal use.
  2. You may distribute the software or provide it to others only if you do so free of charge for non-commercial purposes.
  3. You may not alter, remove, or obscure any licensing, copyright, or other notices of the licensor in the software. Any use of the licensor's trademarks is subject to applicable law.
    Any questions about it? license@360creators.com

What is and isn't allowed under the license in the context of 360Crafter's product when fully selfhosting the application? (full selfhosters only)
This does not apply to BYO-s3 users. This only applies to users who're planning to use the source-code to fully selfhost the 360Crafter application on their own server.
The license restricts use to "internal business purposes". In practice this means all use is allowed unless you are selling a product, service, or module in which the value derives entirely or substantially from 360Crafter functionality.
Here are some examples that wouldn't be allowed:
❌ White-labeling 360Crafter and offering it to your customers for money.
❌ Hosting 360Crafter and charging people money to access it.
All of the following examples are allowed under our license:
✅ Using 360Crafter to sell 360° virtual tours with and inviting clients over to edit content.
✅ Providing consulting services related to 360Crafter, for example building 360° Virtual Tours or custom features closely connected to 360Crafter.
✅ Supporting 360Crafter, for example by setting it up or maintaining it on an internal company server.

Is 360Crafter open source?
Although 360Crafter's source code is going to be available under the Sustainable Use License, according to the Open Source Initiative (OSI), open source licenses can't include limitations on use, so I do not call it open source. In practise, 360Crafter offers most users many of the same benefits as OSI-approved open source.
N8n coined the term 'fair-code' as a way of describing the licensing model, and the model of other companies who are source-available, but restrict commercial use of the source code.

Do you offer a managed Cloud subscription plan?
Initially yes, but I've decided to take this out of the pre-launch for now in order to focus on the main product first to bring your own s3 storage. There's quite a lot to it building this type of infrastructure. And it needs to be very clear how much storage and bandwidth you're going to get with these plans, which I still need to put in more research to know these things for sure.
